Welcome to AI Collision 💥.
Firstly, Happy New Year!
Second, we’ve only just fired up the engines and started getting back into the swing of delivering you the best most insightful AI-focused content we can.
That means, yep, we’re looking back at our most popular piece of 2023 because,
a) it’s great insight as to the direction of AI.
b) we know a bunch of people still probably haven’t seen it yet
c) we’re being a little lazy (it is only the start of the year)
With that in mind, take a look again at our October interview with Rebecca Gorman, CEO of Aligned AI.
There’s a slightly ulterior motive here too…
On Thursday, we’re going to send you out the first of our 2024 prediction pieces. This Thursday and all of next week we’ll be writing to you about what we expect the big AI stories of 2024 will look like and some of the AI companies making the biggest impact.
But before we look forward we want to look back at this interview with Rebecca as we think a lot of the things discussed in this interview will be even more relevant and important in 2024.
So without further delay, check out our interview below.
AI Collision 💥 in conversation with: Aligned AI
When is AI safe AI? When is it more or less humanlike?
There’s a lot of fear about AI. What it can become – if it can feel and behave like a human. The dystopians out there believe that AI may reach a “singularity” whereby it exceeds all human capacity, takes on a mind of its own, realises humans aren’t needed and goes on to terminate us all.
This is the existential threat many perceive will become reality with out-of-control AI.
On the other hand, what if AI that is more humanlike is smarter, safer, augments our capabilities, makes us better, lifts living standards, reduces mortality and makes the world a better place – a more profitable place?
Not many dare to put in the work to make safer AI, but that’s exactly what Aligned AI is doing. Safer AI is better for us all and its CEO, Rebecca Gorman, jumped onto Zoom with me recently to discuss AI, Aligned AI’s work and what the future could be like with safer AI in it.
Boomers & Busters 💰
AI and AI-related stocks moving and shaking up the markets this week. (All performance data below over the rolling week).
*** the markets have been widely closed during the holiday period with only a handful of trading days. Therefore, we’ll bring back the booms and busts of AI stocks next week.
From the hive mind 🧠
This might be the most important test of what AI is and how it works we’ve seen yet. And it could very well shape the direction of how AI is used…if the case ever makes it to trial.
You know those “Earn £10,000 per month" from home” ads you see dotted around online. Well, looks like at least one way might actually be true, and work.
What is a brain, AI, a network, a computer – where does the line exist or not exist between which is which and which is the other?
