Why are people at the Guardian and their readers such miserable Luddites? Robots, AI etc. doing these tasks are going to be critical to us going forward. Especially those that are being designed and rolled out now to pick fruit and veg. Why not restaurants too and anywhere else that isn't particularly value adding, like distribution...

πŸ˜‚ I think distribution will see a huge surge for robotics, already in play now, and a big focus of companies like Amazon

Just a thought. AI promises to bring huge benefits and far greater efficiency to so many areas of modern living. However, with the potential for AI-enhanced deep fakery and mind manipulation in the wrong hands, what safeguards could possibly be put in place to avoid the awful possibilty of wars, national economic "shutdowns" etc being triggered by bad actors using increasingly powerful and effective AI to bring about their destructive ends? Or, just as the Internet is an extremely useful tool to be used for either positive or negative purposes, do we have to accept the existence/inevitability of the "dark web" as the price for progress? (To be clear, I am positive about AI, just concerned about how it MIGHT be used and unforeseen consequences.)

I'd probably suggest if you haven't already check out my chat with Rebecca Gorman at Aligned AI https://aicollision.substack.com/p/special-edition-interview-with-aligned

Core premise, more human like AI quite possibly leads to safer AI. Bad actors will always utilise these tools, but the irony is maybe its AI that helps circumvent it.
