Hi Sam, I couldn’t access today’s article “Big Tech” uses too much water! from AI Collision ‘From the hive mind’. Clicking on the link provided, it said that I would have to subscribe to the Financial Times to unlock the article.

Updated, not as good a source, but recent at least. Another one from a little while back too https://www.cnbc.com/2023/12/06/water-why-a-thirsty-generative-ai-boom-poses-a-problem-for-big-tech.html

Thx for yr explanation of woke my man.

I do have another query for you, this time its involving a couple of crypto miners I've seen that are available on ebay, ok I realise they are cheap & run on next to no electricity but this doesn't bother me as I have lots of solar panels!

The models are as follows:

1. Canaan Avalon Nano BTC Bitcoin Miner. Price approx £200

2. Lucky Miner LV07. Price £180ish

Yes I do realise both these machines are really slow in comparison to the modern miners & would have to be switched on 25/8/366 days a year! But like I've said the power consumption is of no worry to me...

So please let me know, would you have one? Especially seeing as Bitcoin is on the way to a £million.

Cheers mate!

A loyal & happy reader of your work through Southbank Research!

Hey Sam-the-man

here's hoping you like your new nickname as you do seem to know just about all that's going-on in the world of tech you must store your brain in some kind of mega-freezer overnight for sure just to keep it cool as otherwise it would overheat & destroy itself...

Anyway my question is so simple it's crazy. Can you kindly explain what exactly the term 'woke' is all about, just as if you were trying to trying to get it over to a group of primary age kids, as that's basically my level.

Cheers mate.

Party On!

In the context of the change in its definition and usage, it's now often seen as over-sensitivity to prejudices and bias to push an agenda, particularly in respect to political correctness, gender, race and religion. Historically and by pure definition, there's nothing wrong with being woke as its an awareness of injustices and prejudices, but in the context of using it to push an agenda (from both ends of the political spectrum) is where it's definition is now getting blurred and abused.

1 further question: can you please give me your understanding of the meaning of the term 'woke' as I've gotta admit the meaning behind the word completely baffles me & I'd be really grateful if you could give me your understanding of it if you can. Cheers mate & Party On!

The literal definition is somewhat removed from it's current definitive use. Currently it's used as a term to explain the overly liberal awareness of cultural and social problems at the detriment to others unfairly. The literal definition is just the awareness of cultural and social problems. So in that sense, being woke according to its literal definition is not a bad thing, but when it's weaponised is where things get murky.
